This release comes with several improvements and bug fixes:
Buy with BTC Direct
We are excited to announce BTC Direct joins Pocket Bitcoin and Moonpay for buying bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies directly in the BitBoxApp – enabling more versatile payment options for European users. This marks another milestone in our ongoing partnership with BTC Direct, after having integrated their Private Trading Desk in the last release.
To buy with BTC Direct, simply head to the Buy & sell section. If BTC Direct is available for the selected coin and your country, you can select it from the list of services. As you would expect, coins are sent automatically to your BitBox wallet once BTC Direct has received your payment.
BTC Direct offers a wide range of local payment options. Depending on where you’re located in Europe, services such as iDEAL, Bancontact, Sofort and Cartes Bancaires are available next to regular bank transfers and credit or debit card payments. If you prefer to set up a savings plan instead of buying just once, you can do so by selecting the “Recurring” tab.
To get starting, users must open an account and complete a quick KYC self-verification with BTC Direct.
Restart in Testnet mode
Using a Bitcoin wallet for the first time can be a scary venture for some users. The Bitcoin Testnet is a great option if you want to start tinkering with transactions or demonstrate the BitBoxApp to others, without having to worry about your real bitcoin being at stake.
The Arni update adds an option in the advanced settings in the BitBoxApp to restart in Testnet mode, making it more accessible and convenient to use, especially on Android.
Switching back to your actual coins is as easy as restarting the app again. To avoid confusing the two modes with each other, the BitBoxApp indicates Testnet mode being active with a persistent warning on the account overview, and denominates coins in TBTC or tsats.
Simple xpub sharing with exchanges
The AOP protocol makes signing and sharing addresses with third parties such as brokers and exchanges easy and convenient, without having to perform cumbersome test transactions or create signatures manually. You can learn more in this blog article.
This release now extends the protocol with the ability to easily share an extended public key (xpub) of an account with an external service. For example, this allows the exchange to send withdrawals to new addresses when you withdraw coins, without having to verify a new address each time.
Of course, just like with single addresses, extended public keys are only shared after the user’s confirmation. We generally recommend using dedicated accounts when sharing extended public keys to protect your privacy.
Miscellaneous improvements
This release also comes with several bug fixes and smaller improvements:
- The button to hide amounts is now always shown (and the option is removed from the app settings).
- Long transaction notes are now fully shown in multiple lines if the space is needed.
- On Android and macOS, native scroll bars of the system are now used for a more familiar and uniform look.
- When importing transaction notes, the file selection menu is now limited to text files only.
- During the Windows installation, a shortcut on the Desktop will now be created by default.
- Fixed a bug on Android, where disconnecting the BitBox was not properly registered by the BitBoxApp in the background.
- Fixed a bug where ERC20 tokens had wrong units in the CSV export of the transaction history.
- Fixed a bug where users could not sign in to Moonpay within the app.
- Fixed a bug that would prevent the app to perform firmware upgrade when offline.
- Smaller bug fixes.
Note: With this release, we had to drop support for macOS 11 (and some older versions of Linux) to ensure functionality of all exchange integrations. The minimum compatible version is now macOS 12 (Monterey). If your Mac is not compatible with this version, you can keep using v4.46.0.
