Selling with Pocket Bitcoin
We are excited to integrate the ability to sell bitcoin directly in the BitBoxApp. With our partner Pocket Bitcoin and a novel security feature, the selling process in this new release is just as simple as it is secure. Selling bitcoin is available from today with the latest version of the BitBoxApp.
Similar to how Pocket will send your coins directly to the BitBox02 when buying bitcoin, the exchanged fiat amount when selling is sent directly to your bank account once the Bitcoin transaction has enough confirmations. If your bank supports SEPA instant transactions, Pocket will use this to quickly send you your money. In ideal conditions, this means that it could take less than 30 minutes for you to receive your funds. For amounts less than 950 EUR a day, no extensive verification process is required.
Using digitally signed payment requests, the BitBox02 can independently verify a deposit address from Pocket is authentic. In addition, the BitBox02 will display a memo containing the IBAN of the bank account where the exchanged money will be sent. This way, users can be confident that Pocket has received the correct details. Check out our blog post on payment requests to learn how this security feature works.
To get started, click “Buy & sell” in the BitBoxApp, choose an account and select “Sell”. You will be guided through the selling process, just like you might already be used to when buying bitcoin through the BitBoxApp. After all relevant details such as your bank account or the amount of bitcoin you want to sell have been entered, the BitBox02 will automatically prepare a bitcoin transaction using the signed payment request from Pocket.
If everything looks good, simply confirm on-device and you’re all set!
To celebrate the start of the selling integration, Pocket offers benefits for both new and existing customers for the whole month of October. New customers get 10 CHF/EUR with code “Uptober”, while existing customers can make their first sale with 0% fees for up to 950 EUR.
Please note that Pocket Bitcoin is currently exclusive to users in Europe, and selling bitcoin is only available if the service was previously used to buy bitcoin (either through the BitBoxApp or directly with Pocket).
Auto-detect microSD cards
Previously, when the user was prompted to insert a microSD card during wallet setup, a manual confirmation after inserting it in the slot was necessary for the device to detect it. To simplify the user experience, the BitBox02 now automatically detects whether a microSD card is inserted when creating or restoring a wallet, without the need to manually interact with the device.
Miscellaneous improvements
This version also comes with a few more improvements and bug fixes:
- The system back button on Android now functions as intended inside the BitBoxApp instead of closing the app.
- To avoid confusion, Ethereum addresses are now displayed on the BitBox02 with the same upper- and lowercase letters as shown in the BitBoxApp.
- The prompt on the BitBox02 to insert a microSD card can now be exited correctly.
- Fixed a bug where problems with fetching exchange rates could lead to a blank screen in the BitBoxApp.
