The 25th of September marks the anniversary of the BitBox02. Two years ago the first devices shipped to consumers. Today, people in 97 countries are using the BitBox02 to keep their money safe.
Our progress so far
Ever since our beta program, we have worked hard to make the BitBox02 better and easier to use.
Keep it simple
Many of the improvements we have made were developed especially with beginner users in mind. For example:
- Option to buy crypto directly in the BitBoxApp, with the coins sent directly into the BitBox02
- Simple setup wizard to generate a new wallet or restore an existing one from a backup
- Friendly portfolio page with an overview of all funds secured by the BitBox02
- Multiple accounts in the BitBoxApp to keep your funds organized
- Address Ownership Proof Protocol (AOPP) which simplifies buying Bitcoin from KYC-light services like Pocket & GetBittr
- Unified accounts to remove the need to choose technical Bitcoin script types
With the BitBox02, users don’t even need a computer to safe-keep their coins anymore. An Android phone is enough to use the full potential of the BitBox02. This means on-boarding new users to self-custody has never been easier.
For the power users
At the same time, advanced users can take advantage of new features like secure MultiSig account registration, Tor proxy support, coin control and Replace-by-Fee (RBF).
Trust in a new hardware wallet is not earned easily. It’s the result of responsible open source development, a humble mindset towards new attack vectors, and honest communication. Because we take these values by heart, not a single BitBox02 has revealed its secrets to attackers to date – despite efforts from various security researchers.
We are very grateful for everyone who chooses to recommend the BitBox02 to their friends and family, knowing it’s safe and easy to use.
Going forward
If you bought a BitBox02 two years ago, you benefit from the same updates as someone who bought it last week. We believe hardware wallets should be supported and maintained for as long as possible.
That’s why we are currently focusing on improving the BitBox02 experience even further, rather than developing a new hardware revision. You can buy a BitBox02 today without fearing that we are going to stop working on it anytime soon.
We will keep improving the user experience and adding new features, such as more buy and sell options in the BitBoxApp, adding further support for altcoins and Bitcoin taproot addresses.
