The Swiss startup Pocket allows you to make recurring Bitcoin purchases via bank transfer in the easiest way possible. The best part: you don't need to create an account, and the bitcoin are transferred directly to your own wallet. Pocket is available for customers from all over Europe.

This whole process is particularly straightforward with the BitBox02 hardware wallet, because Pocket offers full integration; setting up a Bitcoin savings plan is dead easy. In this tutorial, we will run through how this works in detail.

How to use your BitBox02 with Pocket

Visit the Pocket website and click on "Set up now". Next, select whether you already have a wallet or want to order one. In this article, we will assume that you have a BitBox02, and that it is already set up. Therefore select "On your existing wallet" when asked "Where do you want to store Bitcoin?".

Do you have a Bitcoin wallet or need a new one?

Next, select your wallet, in our case the BitBox02.

To buy Bitcoin without a user account and additional identification, your BitBox02 sends a receive address to Pocket. In addition, it also signs a message with the private key of this address (which of course remains secret) and thus proves that the receive address belongs to your wallet.

For this, the Pocket website communicates directly with BitBox02. You need the latest BitBoxApp (4.29.0 or newer). Then click on "Next".

Install the latest BitBoxApp

On the next page, click the "Register new address" button, which will open the BitBoxApp. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code with any QR code scanner app and then access the link.

Click on "Register new address"

Connect the BitBox02 to your computer. Unlock it with your device password (and enter your passphrase if enabled). Once the BitBox02 is unlocked, you will see that Pocket has requested an address. Click on "Next". Don't worry, your private keys never leave the BitBox02, not even here.

Thereupon a message is displayed, which confirms that you are in possession of the displayed address. Sign this message on your BitBox02.

Sign this message on your BitBox02

After you have signed the message, it will be sent back to Pocket and you will see a confirmation in the BitBoxApp.

Confirmation

You can now return to Pocket Bitcoin in your browser. Confirm the address there to continue.

Lastly, Pocket Bitcoin will ask you for an email address for status updates and the IBAN of your bank account from which you will send the money.

Once you're done, Pocket will show you an overview of the order:

From now on, you can make a single or recurring transfer to the displayed bank account at any time. Always enter your unique payment reference to ensure that Pocket can assign the transfer to your wallet.

Each payment Pocket receives will be converted into Bitcoin, minus a 1.5% fee, and is then sent directly to your BitBox02 wallet.

Congratulations, continue to have fun "stacking" Bitcoin! :)

Frequently asked questions

Is Pocket Bitcoin trustworthy?

Yes, Pocket Bitcoin is a fully licensed and regulated Swiss company run by a team of dedicated bitcoiners. Of course, we cannot vouch for them, as they are a separate company not affiliated with Shift Crypto.

Should I buy Bitcoin with Pocket?

Pocket Bitcoin is one of the easiest ways to buy Bitcoin directly to your hardware wallet (e.g., a BitBox02) with reasonable fees and minimal KYC. Of course, there are cheaper or more anonymous ways, but these are not as easy and require more technical knowledge. Overall, we like the service offered by Pocket Bitcoin a lot and happily recommend it.

Is Pocket Bitcoin an anonymous service without KYC?

Pocket uses minimal KYC: you don't need a user account, and no identification is necessary. But as you can only buy Bitcoin through a bank transfer, Pocket will still learn your identity through the bank transfer.

What's the easiest way to buy Bitcoin directly to a hardware wallet?

In Europe, the easiest way to buy Bitcoin directly to your hardware wallet, without a registration and minimal KYC, is to use a service like Pocket (pocketbitcoin.com) or Bittr (getbittr.com). Both have a seamless integration of the BitBox02 hardware wallet for the best user experience.

Don’t own a BitBox yet?

Keeping your crypto secure doesn't have to be hard. The BitBox02 hardware wallet stores the private keys for your cryptocurrencies offline. So you can manage your coins safely.

The BitBox02 also comes in Bitcoin-only version, featuring a radically focused firmware: less code means less attack surface, which further improves your security when only storing Bitcoin.
