By default, the BitBox02 creates a backup on a microSD card. You can create an additional analog backup by writing down 24 recovery words. This is a great option because this backup is interoperable, transparent and - depending on the material - will last for generations.

Privacy is important, so the card does not mention Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies on the outside. A backup needs to withstand the test of time. The backup card uses fine high-quality and ageing-resistant cardboard that is chlorine-free and acid-free. It is sourced from a specialty paper manufacturer with over 100 years of experience.
The fine cardboard of the backup card has a weight of 270 g/m2 and is used in three layers with the outer cover and the backup inlay. This makes for a very solid card. The cold-lamination pouch included with the backup card adds important protection against moisture and physical wear and does not require a lamination machine.
